There are many studies about the health benefits associated to black chai. The ingredients act synergistically to increase each other’s traditional healing benefits.

Beats fatigue: The uplifting effect is mainly connected to the black tea found in the blend. Our black chai’s caffeine content is rather low compared to a cup of coffee, but it will still give you the necessary energy boost. Furthermore the Indian spices found in our blend help revitalise your body.

Anti-inflammatory: Ginger is the most important ingredient when it comes to helping with inflammation. Additionally the cinnamon and clove work synergistically.

Cold and flu prevention: The antimicrobial properties of the masala chai’s constituent spices make this blend good for strengthening the immune system and minimising common infections’ negative effects. However, if you are after a tea that is specifically formulated to boost immunity, you might be more interested in our Immune Tea.

Improves digestion / reduces bloating: The ginger cuts out the acidic nature of the tea, whereas the clove helps with saliva production. In general, the stomach and intestinal digestive components’ activities are enhanced by the spices found in our black chai tea, which assists in reducing bloating.

How to brew Masala Chai

• Place 1-2 teaspoons of loose leaf tea per cup (250ml) in an infuser or teapot and pour over boiling water (100°C)
• Infuse for 5+ minutes depending on your desired strength
• Pour into your favourite cup and experience the moment
• We recommend complementing with milk and/or honey to taste
• Enjoy daily, especially for morning or afternoon tea to invigorate and restore.

How to make Masala Chai on the stove top

For an extra spicy and authentic experience, Masala Chai can be prepared on the stove top

• Place 1-2 teaspoons of loose leaf tea per cup (250ml) in a saucepan or our Copper Milk Warmer + Chai Pot and cover with water • Bring to the boil and simmer for 5 mins • Add milk if desired and warm through • Strain into your favourite cup using a tea infuser or our Brass Tea Strainer • Complement with honey to taste • Enjoy daily, especially for morning or afternoon tea to invigorate and restore.

After finishing your brew, we encourage you to return your steeped herbs back to the earth, for example in your home compost, worm farm or garden waste, allowing it to breakdown into organic matter and return to nourish our environment.

Our Masala Chai Tea Box and Jar contain 100g and serve up to 40 cups. The compostable Refill Pouch contains 200g and serves up to 80 cups.

Storage

What is the difference between Masala Chai and chai tea?

The main difference between chai and masala tea is the addition of spices. Chai is black tea and hot milk, while Masala tea will combine black tea, milk and a few spices.

Is Masala Chai the same as chai latte?

Although chai lattes are a Western take on Indian Masala chai, they exhibit some similarities, such as the use of tea, milk, and a blend of spices. However, chai lattes traditionally have a frothy texture due to steamed milk and often have a sweeter taste compared to their masala chai counterparts.

What is the flavour of Masala Chai?

Composed of five spices, Masala Chai has a sweet, distinctly piquant and peppery taste all of its own.

Where did chai tea originate?

Legend has it that the origin of chai was in India and dates back more than 5,000 years.

How much caffeine is in chai tea?

The caffeine content in Masala Chai varies. Chai tea generally has about half the amount of caffeine compared to a cup of coffee.

Can you eat chai tea leaves?

Tea leaves can be hard to digest, especially in large sizes or high volumes of smaller sizes. The more tea leaves that enter the digestive tract, the harder it will be for your stomach to digest them. So we don’t recommend eating the leaves.

Is chai tea safe during pregnancy?

Having one cup of chai tea may be considered safe during pregnancy, however, we recommend you speak to your doctor or obstetrician before consuming caffeine.
