Support through every phase

Cycling years. Nutritive herbs rich in iron and minerals have a long traditional use through menstruation, alongside calming herbs for the days when everything feels sharper. Our Women's Wellness Tea is formulated for exactly this, and pure Chamomile is the traditional choice for cramping. If your cycle is irregular or you are managing a diagnosed hormonal condition, our guide to herbal tea for PMOS, formerly known as PCOS goes through the evidence herb by herb.

Pregnancy, birth and beyond. This is a stage with its own requirements, and not every herb suitable otherwise is suitable then. Our Pregnancy + Nursing collection is formulated specifically for it, covering each trimester and the months after birth.

Perimenopause and menopause. A transition rather than an event, and often a long one. Calming and cooling herbs are the traditional support, and sleep tends to be the thing that matters most, which our Relaxation + Sleep collection addresses directly.

FAQ and further info about our women's health range

Nettle and other nutritive herbs are used for their mineral and iron content, which matters through the cycling years. Rose has a long association with the reproductive system in both Western and Ayurvedic traditions, and appears throughout this collection. Chamomile is used for cramping and for the nervous tension that often comes with it. Buchu leaf is traditionally used for the urinary tract. Every ingredient in each blend is listed in full on its product page.

Warmth first, herbs second. A hot drink and a hot bath do more than most people expect, because heat relaxes the smooth muscle that is doing the cramping. Chamomile is the traditional herbal choice, on its own or within a blend. If your periods are severe enough to interfere with work or sleep, or the pattern has changed, that is worth raising with your healthcare professional rather than managing alone.

Spearmint has the strongest clinical evidence of any herb here, with a randomised controlled trial showing measurable reductions in free testosterone within thirty days of two cups daily. Green tea and cinnamon both have trial evidence for insulin sensitivity, and ginger for inflammation and the LH to FSH balance. Spearmint appears in our Moroccan Mint Green Tea and our Cleansing Tea, while cinnamon and ashwagandha are in Women's Wellness Tea. We have set out the research in full, including the cautions and the medication interactions, in our guide to the best tea for PMOS symptom management. If you are on spironolactone, metformin or the pill, talk to your healthcare professional before adding these to your routine.

Menstruation involves a regular loss of iron, and low iron is one of the most common reasons women feel persistently tired. Nutritive herbs such as nettle contain iron and minerals in a plant form, and an infusion contributes a modest amount as part of a varied diet. It is a contribution rather than a substitute for a blood test, so if you suspect low iron, ask for one.

Herbs have a long traditional use through this transition, mostly aimed at sleep, temperature and mood rather than at hormones directly. Cooling and calming herbs are the usual approach, and an evening ritual that helps you sleep is often the single most useful change. This is also the stage where individual advice earns its keep most, so our naturopath offers consultations, and your GP can talk you through the full range of options.

Buchu leaf is a South African herb with a long traditional use for the urinary tract, and our Buchu Tea pairs it with juniper. We have written a fuller piece on the subject in our holistic guide to urinary tract health. A suspected urinary tract infection needs a doctor rather than a tea, since untreated infections can travel to the kidneys.
