Naturally caffeine free, not decaffeinated
There is a real difference between the two. Decaffeinated tea starts as ordinary tea leaf and has most of its caffeine stripped out, either with a chemical solvent or with pressurised carbon dioxide, and a decaffeinated cup still carries a small residual amount. A herbal infusion never contained caffeine to begin with, because it contains no tea leaf at all. Every blend in this collection falls into the second group.
FAQ and further info about our herbal tea 🌿
Our herbal teas, or tisanes, are made from herbs, flowers, roots, bark, seeds or spices, and do not contain Camelia sinensis leaves. Hence they are naturally caffeine-free. They also offer a range of wellness benefits.
Yes, all our blends listed here as herbal tea are naturally caffeine-free. Please refer to the individual product pages for more information, which can be found under the ingredients section.
Decaffeinated tea is real tea that has had its caffeine removed after the fact. Herbal tea never had any. That difference matters if you are avoiding caffeine entirely, because decaffeination is never total: a decaffeinated cup typically still contains a small residual amount, whereas a herbal infusion contains none at all. Decaffeination is also done either with a chemical solvent or with pressurised carbon dioxide, a processing step our blends never go through.
It varies considerably with the leaf, the grade and the steep, but as a rough guide a cup of brewed coffee sits at roughly double a cup of black tea, with green tea lower again and white tea lower still. Two things push the number up: a longer steep, and broken leaf. Tea bags contain finely broken leaf with far more surface area, so they extract more caffeine than whole loose leaf does.
Yes. Rooibos comes from a South African shrub unrelated to the tea plant, so it carries no caffeine and very little tannin, which is why it tastes smooth and slightly sweet without turning bitter. You can find the full range in our rooibos collection.
Yes. Our herbal teas are designed for safe, daily use and support general wellbeing, hydration and relaxation. Please refer to the individual product pages for more information about potential health benefits.
Each blend is created by a qualified naturopath and herbalist, the founder and director of the company, Chalimah Jeanne, with your overall health and wellbeing in mind. She combines traditional knowledge and modern research.
Our herbal teas are 100% certified organic and free from additives or artificial flavouring. And we hand-blend them in small batches to ensure the highest quality standards and freshness. You can read more about how our blends are formulated in our naturopathic collection.
For the exact instructions please refer to the product information provided on the page. In general, you should steep herbal infusions longer than traditional teas that contain Camelia sinensis leaves, so that the aroma can develop and therapeutic benefits may increase. You can also read our guide on how to perfectly brew all loose leaf tea types.
Chamomile and lavender are the classics, and both feature in our Restful Tea. Pure Chamomile Tea is the gentlest place to start. For something floral and unwinding rather than sedating, try Peaceful Tea. The full selection is in our Relaxation + Sleep collection.
They do different jobs. Chamomile is soft, floral and calming, traditionally used in the evening and for settling an unsettled stomach. Peppermint is sharp and cooling, traditionally used after meals for wind and bloating, and it wakes you up rather than winding you down despite having no caffeine. Chamomile before bed, peppermint after dinner.
Gentle infusions such as chamomile are traditionally given to children in weak, cooled preparations, but not every blend in this range is appropriate and quantities need reducing by age. We do not publish paediatric dosing. If you would like to give a herbal tea to a child, please speak with your GP or a qualified herbalist first.
Not automatically. Some herbs that are perfectly fine otherwise are not recommended in pregnancy, and "caffeine free" does not mean "pregnancy safe". We have a dedicated Pregnancy + Nursing collection formulated with this in mind. Please check with your midwife, obstetrician or a qualified herbalist before starting any herbal tea.
They can. Herbs are active, and some may affect blood clotting, blood pressure, blood sugar or the liver enzymes involved in metabolising prescription drugs. Every ingredient in every blend is listed in full on its product page, so if you take regular medication, take that list to your doctor or pharmacist before adding a new blend to your routine.
Possibly. Chamomile belongs to the same botanical family as ragweed, daisies and chrysanthemums, so people with strong allergies to those plants occasionally react to it. If that describes you, start with a weak cup or choose a blend from a different family, such as peppermint or lemongrass and ginger.
If you want a single herb, start with pure Chamomile or Peppermint. If you want something bright and everyday, Lemongrass & Ginger. If you want a blend built around an outcome, Digestive Tea or Immune Tea. For something fruity rather than herbal, browse our fruit and berry blends.
