About Sencha Green Tea

Originally from Kyoto Japan, Sencha Tea (sometimes written Sen Cha) has a more refined taste when compared with other types of green tea. When freshly brewed, Sencha Green Tea is one of the few teas actually green in colour and not yellow.

Health Benefits of Sencha Tea:

Lifts Energy

Along with caffeine, Green tea contains L-theanine, this unique amino acid produces an anti-stress effect. The caffeine and L-theanine combine, creating a sense of calm alertness. This makes it the perfect energy adaptogen, stimulating the senses without over-exerting reserves.

Green tea is high in antioxidants known as catechins, these help kill the oral bacteria that cause bad breath and tooth decay. Green tea offers fluoride in a natural form, helping to protect and strengthen your tooth enamel and preventing cavities. Our Moroccan Mint Green Tea is the perfect freshener for after a meal when you find yourself without a tooth brush – A quick cup kills bacteria, prevents cavities and freshens the breath.

Research shows that Green tea has numerous positive effects on the skin helping it stay vibrant, clear and youthful. Green tea protects the skin from harmful UV light by neutralizing the radiation from the inside out. It’s always advisable to still apply a good natural SPF, but green tea can help enhance the effects. High in protective antioxidants, Sencha tea reduces cellular free radical damage, helps to reactivate dying and damaged cells and thereby reduces the appearance of wrinkles and slows signs of aging. Green tea in general has also shown to reduced inflammatory skin conditions such as acne and rosacea, this is due to the powerful anti-inflammatory actions of Epigallocatechin-3-gallate, also known as EGCG.

Metabolism Boosting

Sencha green tea has thermogenic properties. Thermogenesis refers to the body’s capacity to generate heat and burn calories in the process. These thermogenic properties are why green tea is used in so many weight management supplements. It has a proven ability to raise metabolic rate and increasing fat oxidation, perfect for maintaining healthy weight.

Green tea can also protect and boost your immune system against winter cold and flus, as well as gastro-intestinal infections and food poisoning such as salmonella, with its powerful antiviral and antibacterial properties. When it comes to protecting your immune system, the antioxidants found in organic Sencha tea known as catechins are one hundred times more powerful than Vitamin C and twenty five times more powerful than Vitamin E.

Systemic Support

These powerful catechins are also known to reduce the risk of more serious conditions.
For example: blood clots, high blood pressure, reducing overall cholesterol, preventing heart disease, reducing the risk of heart attacks by up to 11%
Some studies suggest that they even help with certain cancers, prevent Alzheimer’s disease and regulate blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. All this by drinking three cups of organic Sencha Green Tea a day.

How is Sencha Tea made?

In order to prevent oxidisation of the leaves, Sencha Green Tea is first steamed for 15-20 seconds. Then, the leaves are rolled, shaped, and dried. This step creates the customary thin cylindrical shape.
