What is Rooibos Tea?
Rooibos Tea (pronounced “Roybos”), sometimes also called red tea, is brewed from the dried leaves of the rooibos plant (Aspalathi linearis). This plant is a low-growing shrub native to South Africa, which is quite unlike traditional tea trees. The oxidised leaves, causing the reddish-brown colour of the beverage, create a smooth and naturally sweet sensation in your cup.
Taste of Rooibos Tea:
Our organic, loose leaf Rooibos Tea blend has a full bodied flavour, which is remarkably smooth and sometimes described as slightly nutty or earthy. The leaves’ natural sweetness is complemented by the cinnamon and vanilla.
Ingredients in our organic rooibos loose leaf tea:
- Rose Petals
All ingredients we use are 100% ACO certified organic, ensuring the purest quality.
How to brew loose leaf Rooibos Tea:
Since Rooibos tea has a lack of tannins, it will never be bitter (unlike other teas) and always have a naturally sweet taste, all whilst being zero calorie. This makes this blend great for serving it either hot or cold, as a healthy refreshment. We recommend brewing for a longer time than other teas.
- Use freshly boiled water (100°C).
- Add a heaped teaspoon of our loose leaf blend into an infuser per cup of water.
- Leave to infuse for an absolute minimum of 3-5 minutes. The brewing time is subject to taste. Personally we prefer to let it soak for 6-10 minutes.
For detailed instructions on how turn this infusion into an iced tea version or cold-brew it, please follow this link: How to make iced tea
The perfectly brewed cup of loose leaf Rooibos Tea is best enjoyed on its own, but can also be served with milk. Due to the natural sweetness, we do not recommend to add honey or sugar until after you’ve tried the finished tea.
Store out of direct sunlight below 30°C.
Rooibos Tea Health Benefits:
Native to South Africa, the red tea is a gentle whole body tonic. It is rich in antioxidants and minerals, and is traditionally used to protect against disease as well as strengthening the body.
Some studies indicate that it has up to 50 times more antioxidants than green tea. The high amount of antioxidants is the reason for its popularity amongst Japanese women, who are drinking RooibosTea for its positive effect on the skin and hair. It has been known to clear skin of acne and prevent wrinkles.
Furthermore, the plant is rich in Vitamin C, low in tannins and may ease digestive problems.
We added cinnamon to our blend, which is traditionally used to lower blood sugar levels and help manage sugar cravings.
Please note that this is just a short summary of the health benefits of rooibos tea. The plant is connected to many more beneficial effects.

Can I drink Rooibos Tea during pregnancy?
Yes, you can. Due to the blend being caffeine free and the plant containing magnesium, calcium as well as a natural high amount of antioxidants, it is even recommend as a beverage of choice while pregnant. A cup can have positive effects on digestion and may ease reflux and colic.
