Native to South America and the Southwestern United States, mesquite is a low GI sweetener that is high in protein. It is rich in a number of vitamins, minerals and amino acids such as magnesium, iron, potassium, zinc and calcium which is good for healthy skin, hair and bones.

Mesquite has a high fibre content, low glycemic index, high mineral content, anti-fungal properties and immune-boosting abilities. Its abundance in soluble fibre helps a smooth digestion and healthy gut flora. The low glycemic index means that it does not need insulin to be broken down and won’t cause blood sugar spikes. Furthermore, mesquite is a source of omega-3s, which makes it good for controlling inflammation. [1]
