This king of spices is native to southern India. Since ancient times, black pepper is one of the most widely-traded spices in the world. In addition to being an exceptional culinary spice, it is known to offer a number of health benefits, of note it has exceptional carminative effects on the gastrointestinal tract, minimising gas, coordinating and regulating gut motility, thus improving and soothing digestion.

He Shou Wu
This is one of the most popular and highly revered tonic herbs in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Along with goji berry it is the main Jing tonic – the primary essence in maintaining functional energy reserves. As such it is renowned for its ability to restore adrenals, counter exhaustion, enhance energy, adapt to stress, potentiate hormones, support libido, and maintain normally abundant sperm count in men and healthy ova in women.
He Shou Wu is a good source of iron, zinc and rich in antioxidants and antioxidant-potentiating molecules which combat oxidative stress and have been shown to result in powerful anti–ageing and life extending properties, maintaining healthy physical and mental functions by toning the kidneys and liver, fortify the muscles, tendons and bones and support immunological functions.
It is also widely used in Asia to maintain the youthful condition and colour of the hair and help turn grey hair back to its original colour. In fact, his is where the name originated, which means “black haired Mr. He”. Mr He, the main character of an ancient story and who this herb is named after, restored his vitality and youthful appearance by taking He Shou Wu.
Today it is also used for treatment of various medical conditions and diseases such as liver injury, diabetes, alopecia, atherosclerosis, and even neurodegenerative diseases. As a tonic herb, it brings the systems back into balance, systemically energising or calming where needed.

This respected herb has multiple applications and a long history of use from ancient Greece and Rome, to Asia and beyond. Over 134 different compounds have been isolated, imparting potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, phyto-estrogenic and immune-stimulating benefits. It’s anti-inflammatory and demulcent actions make it effective against heartburn, acid reflux, nausea, indigestion, gastro-intestinal ulcers, leaky gut and IBS. 
Liquorice is also one of main adaptogen herbs to help improve stress response as it can effectively regulate cortisol. Its antibiotic and antiviral properties potentiate the immune system against infections, whereas the effective expectorant and anti-inflammatory properties can bring fast acting relief to sore throats, coughs, colds and influenza.

Liquorice root is used in our Soothe Dust.
This type of cruciferous vegetable is native to the Andes of Peru and contains a wealth of nutritional and medicinal benefits traced back over 3,000 years. This treasured plant was said to be consumed by the Incan warriors before heading into battle to boost their strength and stamina. It is rich in antioxidants  and nutrients, such as vitamin C, copper and iron.
Maca can be used to treat an array of ailments from fatigue and anaemia to stress and sexual health. It benefits brain function, mood, memory and focus, and supports the body’s ability to handle physical and mental stress. 
Maca positively impacts energy and stamina, and is widely used by athletes to improve physical performance. In women it balances oestrogen levels thereby regulating menstrual cycle, balancing PMS, relieving night sweats, hot flashes and even increases bone density. [11, 12] In males macca improves fertility and boosts libido. It also shows promising outcomes in effectively combating chronic conditions.
Matcha is a high-grade, finely ground, concentrated green tea powder. Tea-powdering originated in China in the 12th century and has a long history of use in traditional tea ceremonies in Japan. Matcha is rich in antioxidants, amino acids, chlorophyll, as well as other nutrients and vitamins. The green tea also contains the highest concentration of catechins antioxidants compared to all natural fruits and vegetables on the ORAC scale. Research has shown that Matcha can reduce the risk of cancer, inhibit tumour growth, protect against ultraviolet B radiation and improve immune system function. [13,14]

This is a legume native to the tropics, originating in southern China and eastern India. Also referred to as velvet bean, it has been used in the traditional Ayurvedic Medicine in India for thousands of years. In Ayurveda it has an affinity for tissues of the body which balance the nervous, reproductive, and digestive systems.
Mucuna, having anti-diabetic, anti-epileptic, anti-carcinogenic, antioxidant and anti-microbial activity, as well as neuro-protective, hypotensive, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, has been shown to have substantial medicinal importance. It supports a healthy nervous system, motor skills and coordination, and is a natural source of levodopa (L-dopa). L-dopa, the precursor to dopamine, is responsible for positive mood, the normal brain and nervous system functions which enhance intellect, promote enjoyment and support overall wellbeing. The L-dopa is also extracted from the seeds to provide commercial drugs for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

Native to South America and the Southwestern United States, mesquite is a low GI sweetener that is high in protein. It is rich in a number of vitamins, minerals and amino acids such as magnesium, iron, potassium, zinc and calcium which is good for healthy skin, hair and bones.
Mesquite has a high fibre content, low glycemic index, high mineral content, anti-fungal properties and immune-boosting abilities. Its abundance in soluble fibre helps a smooth digestion and healthy gut flora. The low glycemic index means that it does not need insulin to be broken down and won’t cause blood sugar spikes. Furthermore, mesquite is a source of omega-3s, which makes it good for controlling inflammation. 
Grown by the Aztecs, Incas and South American Native Indians for thousands of years, passionflower was brought back to Europe in the 16th century by Spanish explorers and now is common placed across the globe. Passion flower shows antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic activity.
It is renowned for promoting serene calmness and relaxation, without affecting mental cognition and productivity. Furthermore, it reduces anxiety, minimises stress and improves sleep quality, all vital processes, which provide the foundation overall wellbeing and optimum health. Peppermint is a hybridised cross between spear- and water-mint, that has been used as herbal medicine for thousands of years in ancient Rome, Greek and Egypt. Peppermint, has significant antimicrobial and antiviral activities, strong antioxidant and antitumor actions, and some antiallergenic potential. It has a cooling and calming effect on the body, soothes the gastric lining and promotes a stable and balanced gastrointestinal environment. Peppermint has shown to aid irritable bowel syndrome, skin conditions, headaches and nausea. [24,25]

This medicinal fungus, also known as the “king of mushrooms”, has been used for over 4000 years in Traditional Chinese Medicine due to its various healing abilities. Reishi translates to “divine mushroom” or “spirit mushroom”, bestowing its primary value as the “essence of immortality”.
Studies demonstrate that reishi has strong anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and adaptogenic abilities that allow them to help curb the negative effects of physical and mental stress, bringing the body back into balance and harmony. Amongst others, consuming reishi is beneficial for improving the body’s immune function, mental clarity, increasing longevity, and boosting defences against diseases/infections. It has been utilised in Chinese Medicine for over 5,000 years and is now cultivated and used worldwide. It is rich in vitamins C, A and E as well as other powerful antioxidant, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. 
The use of rose petals may support women’s health, alleviating many menstrual symptoms such pain, cramping, heavy blood loss, infertility, irregular periods, as well as treating urinary tract infections and boosting libido. Its nutrient and property profile make rose excellent for maintaining radiant skin and hair, treating acne, promoting collagen production and minimise skin damage. Its compounds have antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiviral properties, which can help fight infections.

Siberian ginseng is a herbaceous shrub native to eastern Russia, China, Korea and Japan, where it has been used for centuries in traditional medicine. Siberian ginseng is well known for its immunomodulator and adaptogen actions, making it helpful for people working stressful jobs or doing high energy activities. Besides being useful for protecting the body from stress, it increases cell oxygenation, which increases endurance and alertness, and leads to better circulation, improving concentration and mental clarity. Furthermore, it supports and enhances the immune system response. [40,41,42]

This green leafy plant native to South America has been used for more than 1,500 years by the people of South America and Japan, both as a medicine and natural sweetener. Stevia contains unique compounds which possess anti-hyperglycaemic, antihypertensive, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, antidiarrhoeal, and immune-modulatory actions.
Research confirms stevia can significantly reduce fasting blood sugar levels, balance insulin resistance, aid in glucose regulation, manage weight, as well as many health problems linked to obesity, like diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Complexes in stevia have shown to significantly reduce in LDL cholesterol, triglycerides and blood pressure thereby protecting heart health and preventing future conditions such as atherosclerosis, heart attacks, and strokes. Stevia has been found to reduce bacterial formation in the mouth, as well as prevent cavities and gingivitis. The antibacterial properties are also beneficial in treating skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis. [43,44,45,46]
Triphala is an Ayurvedic herbal mixture composed of three fruits (Indian gooseberry, Bibhitaki, Haritaki) that has traditionally been used as a multi-purpose treatment for centuries. Triphala is particularly high in antioxidants which aid in neutralising free radical activity and improve skin health and appearance. The herbal mixture has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulating and antidiarrheal abilities. That and the naturally high amount of polyphenols in triphala is what make it helpful for modulating the gut micro biome, promoting a healthy digestive tract. Besides boasting cardiovascular health by supporting arterial circulation, turmeric may help prevent damage to the liver and improve liver insufficiency. Some studies suggest it to be equally as effective at treating depression as antidepressants. [52,53]
Known as the ‘tea of the gods’ in south America, yerba mate is said to possess more antioxidant benefits than green tea. The naturally caffeinated herb does not only enhance energy and focus effectively, but is also packed with polyphenols, which help strengthen the immune system. It contains a large number of vitamins, including B vitamins, vitamin A, C and E, as well as an impressive array of minerals, such as potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc and many others.
