Basil (Ocimum basilicum)

Since ancient times, basil has been used both culinarily and medicinally. A member of the mint family. it is native to tropical regions in India, Asia, and Africa.

For centuries, basil has been considered an essential natural medicine and has been prescribed for digestive issues, treating headaches and colds as well as an aphrodisiac.

The eugenol in basil can block calcium channels, which may help to lower blood pressure. It also contains magnesium, which can help to improve blood flow by allowing muscles and blood vessels to relax.

It contains other health benefits and has been used to treat colds sores, throat infections, dysentery and diarrhoea.
